Sodium lauryl sulfate, its CAS NO. is 151-21-3, the synonyms are Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt ; Dodecyl sulfate, sodium salt . Sodium dodecyl sulfate is an organic compound with the formula CH3(CH2)11OSO3Na. It is an anionic surfactant used in many cleaning and hygiene products.
Preparation of Sodium lauryl sulfate: Sodium dodecyl sulfate is synthesized by treating lauryl alcohol with sulfur trioxide gas, oleum, or chlorosulfuric acid to produce hydrogen lauryl sulfate.
Uses of Sodium lauryl sulfate: Sodium lauryl sulfate is a highly effective surfactant used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. It is used in lower concentrations with toothpastes, shampoos, shaving foams, some dissolvable aspirins, enemas, and fiber therapy caplets. Sodium lauryl sulfate can also be used to aid in lysing cells during DNA extraction and for unraveling proteins in SDS-PAGE.
When you are using Sodium lauryl sulfate, please be cautious about it as the following:
1. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice;
2. Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves;
3. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection;
4. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice;
